Why Bother?
Why bother, you might ask. Do you think the Democratic party leadership will do anything different because of your petition? What could they do anyway? And aren't the polls enough to send a message? Besides, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to go against my party.
The Petition:
This petition is a mechanism for delivering a message, loudly and clearly, to the Democratic National Committee, the party members in general, and to the nation. What I believe it can serve to accomplish is the following:
- Augment any negative press Hillary Rodham Clinton receives
- Let people who feel the way that I do express themselves unambiguously and, in so doing, let other people know that there are enough folks like them out there to make a big difference in this year's election
- Give more tangible evidence to support any polls out there which might reveal our sentiments, as polls are often suspect or subject to interpretation
And ultimately...
- Help pressure prominent democrats to pressure Hillary Rodham Clinton to leave the race
Although it may hurt to turn against one's own party, it is our responsibility as voters to make our voices heard. If the Democratic leadership and nominee fail their would-be followers by allowing and engaging in dishonorable behavior which alienates a significant portion of the electorate and diminishes the democratic process, we must punish them in the one manner readily available to those who live in the democratic society that is the United States - with our votes, or lack thereof, on election day.
